The Best 4K TV 2022

It has already proven itself thanks to its calibration, its high brightness levels and its efficiency in HDR, even if its maximum brightness remains lower than the best LCD panels. It also manages to shine in gaming as in cinema thanks to its high reactivity, favored by the game mode, and compatibility with 4K 120Hz, G-Sync and FreeSync Premium.

How to choose your 4K TV?

The world of TVs has been turned upside down in recent years with the arrival of 4K and now virtually all of them are. But often, they are effective on this type of revolution by making concessions on other aspects of the television.

The following criteria allow you to better study the quality of these models:

• Screen type : The LCD works with LEDs providing optimal light and shadow areas. QLED is a technology in which a VA-type LCD panel is combined with a Full LED backlight system, which provides more precise screen illumination and less light leakage. Finally, theYOU ARE is based on a technology where each pixel produces its own light, resulting in infinite contrasts, low light losses and almost zero afterglow time.

IPS often have more precise colorimetry and a wider viewing angle, but their blacks are less intense and their contrast less advantageous. Finally, VAs, less used in gaming, combine the advantages of IPS and TN, but their latency time is a little longer.
• Image quality : several criteria are involved including contrast, viewing angles, respect for colors, temperature, and brightness. The veracity of the colors is evaluated by the delta E (measure of difference between two colors). The lower the delta E, the less visible the difference. Below 3, it is invisible. Clarity should remain the same even if you change your angle of view. But with 4K resolution, no doubt it will be excellent.
• Audio : for a traditional television, the accent is generally placed on the good reproduction of the voices, to the detriment of the lower frequencies. However, it is possible to find certain models where the sound reproduction is very correct, with a TV that integrates a sound bar or subwoofers. For others, you can always add a home cinema or a sound bar.
• Ergonomics : most current televisions benefit from “Smart” technology depending on an operating system, which makes it possible to take advantage of the available applications (otherwise, it is still possible to invest in a box Android). It is therefore necessary to have an intuitive interface. Also, there is often a remote control and a voice assistant that accompany the television. The control’s shortcut keys save you time and the backlight system is always more fun to use in the dark.
• The connection : the question of connectivity has been greatly simplified with the advent of HDMI. You just need to count the number of devices you want to connect to your TV and note the corresponding number of HDMI ports. If you have a few older devices connected by analog ports, see if the TV is compatible (at worst, there are adapters). However, in most cases you will benefit from a Bluetooth connection.
• La performance : this criterion includes the latency time for display and format compatibility. 4K and HDR televisions offer more advanced technologies. Among HDR, there is HDR10 + and Dolby Vision, as well as other somewhat less advanced HDR formats. With it, responsiveness will be of importance for those who wish to play video games on the screen. Ideally, the latency should be as low as possible.
• The designs : a television is a central accessory in a living room. It must therefore be perfectly suited to your interior. For that, you will have to focus on its fixing system which passes either by a wall hanging, or by an installation on a foot. The size of the edges, meanwhile, will influence the display space and has an aesthetic connotation.
• Energy consumption : When a screen is permanently connected, it is useful to ensure that its impact on your overall electricity consumption remains reasonable. It is therefore important to take a look at its energy label (recently updated, as we explain here), on which you will find its ranking from A to G, the latter being the most energy-intensive. It also gives you an estimate of the average power consumption, based on 1000 hours of operation in Standard mode.
