Looking for a desktop calculator with a classic design? You may be interested in the Casio MS-80VERII model. It has a sober design, keys like the ones before, a good screen inclination and a solar panel to last you a lifetime.
The truth is that its manufacturing quality is really good, with a metal panel surrounding the keys and that it is a joy to press the keys with that slight curve in the center (similar to the keys on a computer keyboard).
- It is a good office calculator, which is why we have included it among the best Casio calculators. It has a very good price, and it looks like it will last you until the end of time. Let’s see how it has behaved in the review.

If you want a traditional desktop calculator that is not as colorful as the Casio MS-20UC calculator … and has a better screen inclination, this is your model. In addition, it has a currency converter, something that can be very interesting for many businesses.

Its build quality is much better, it is more sober: it has a silver metal cover that surrounds the keys, while the solar panel and the screen sit on a beautiful purple color.

The display area is highly inclined, perfect for placing the calculator on a table and viewing the screen without straining your neck.

The colors of the keys have an air of classic calculators from the 80s and 90s, and the truth is that their readability is very good. The keys have more presence than in the MS-20UC model. The number keys are black, C and AC are orange, Local and Euro are blue, and the rest are gray. The number 5 has a small dot sticking out of the key (perfect for locating by touch). All keys are slightly recessed in the center.

The screen is quite large and in it we can see up to 8 digits so it is somewhat smaller than the screen of the Casio MS-20UC calculator. It also offers thousands separator, something perfect if you work with accounts in your company.
Its price is higher than this model, but not too much. It can be obtained for less than 15 euros.

At the back we can see two rubber bands at the bottom so that the calculator does not move from the table (they could have put four, but the truth is that it does not move a millimeter from its place) and two screws at the top to be able to remove the cover and change the battery.
This operation can be somewhat complicated (you have to use a lot of force with the risk of breaking it) … They could have implemented something simpler.
Casio MS-80VERII Desktop Calculator: Features
The most prominent calculation that you can perform with this model is the Euro currency conversion (example with 1 euro = 1.95583 DM -German marks-):

- We press the AC button to turn it on
- Press the% (RATE SET) button until EURO SET RATE appears
- We squeeze 1,95583 % (RATE SET)
- We can check it by pressing AC and then EURO (RATE).
German marks? It is the example that comes in the instruction book… It seems that Casio has not updated it for more than 20 years.
But you can perform many other basic operations like the ones described in this box:

Conclusion: Is the Casio MS-80VERII desktop calculator worth buying?
Yes. What stands out the most about this model is its spectacular screen inclination: it is very comfortable to use on the table for this reason. Its manufacturing quality is very good and the ergonomics of its keys are spectacular.
It does not have flashy colors like other models, but this model is a winning horse. Having a solar panel ensures that its useful life is tremendous.
If you want to combine taxes and currency conversion you will have to go to the DF-120TERII, the MS-120TERII or the MS-100TERII. If you also want a rounding selector, you will have to choose the DH-12TER.
In favor:
- Good workmanship with metal front
- Good touch of keys and with different colors
- With a fairly tilted screen
- With solar charge and battery
- Has a currency converter
Against:
- It has no rounding selector
- Cover something difficult to remove
