Honorable mentions
Rowenta Power XXL RO3125EA (€ 88.48 upon publication): A large bag capacity for top peace of mind. With its bags with a capacity of 4.5 L, this model provides you with several suction sessions without constraint. Its four multidirectional wheels and its 6.2 meter long power cord make it easy to handle, but it is above all its power that impresses users, and this as well on hard floors as on rugs and carpets.
Princess 333001 Power Deluxe (€ 91.26 at publication): A small price ideal for hard floors. Rated A, it is energy efficient and very efficient for its price. It has a HEPA H12 filter that removes 99.5% of dust particles in the air. According to users, it is very manoeuvrable (weight of 5 kg). However, some believe that the cable is a bit short, and that its sound rate is high (78 dB). It performs better on hard floors than on carpets and rugs, where its efficiency is more average.
Miele Complete C3 Silence EcoLine (€ 343.85 at time of publication): An alternative to Complete C3 ideal for hard floors. It can accommodate a bag with a capacity of 4.5 L and belongs to the energy class A +. It has a HEPA filter and is ideal for people with allergies. It has very similar characteristics to the Miele Complete C3 (same capacity / energy class / range, etc.) but is lighter, less noisy (64 dB) and slightly less energy-consuming than the latter. On the other hand, it is a little less efficient on the mats.
How to choose your vacuum cleaner with bag?
Today, the vacuum cleaner market is extremely rich and diverse. Between vacuum cleaners with or bagless, the broom vacuum cleaners, the wet and dry vacuum cleaners, the robot vacuum cleaners, or the hand vacuum cleaners, there is sometimes something to get lost.
To help you make the best choice and demonstrate that bagged vacuum cleaners still have great potential, it is necessary, first of all, to put them in confrontation with bagless vacuum cleaners on several criteria:
- Hygiene : vacuum cleaners with a bag have been shown to be more suitable for people with allergies, for example. Decades of technological advancement have finally trapped all the dust (and allergens) in the bag. Seal systems are added to it when the bag is full, which allows you to empty your vacuum cleaner without ever having the slightest contact with the dust.
- Air filtration You might object to the presence of HEPA filters in bagless vacuums, but in reality most of the bagged models coming out on the market nowadays also have them. If we add that, natural, of the bag, the filtration is double. On bagless models, the filters require regular maintenance and eventually wear out. A vacuum cleaner with a bag will therefore be more efficient in filtration at the base, but also over time.
- Electricity consumption : as a European directive imposes a limit on the wattage on the manufacturers, a cyclonic vacuum cleaner at 750 W aspirates with the same air flow, theoretically, as a model equal to 1500 W. Manufacturers also manage to offer convincing results with reduced power, in particular thanks to an elaborate design, floor brushes and engine optimization (better ratio between air flow and vacuum).
- The noise : the vacuum cleaner with a bag is generally less noisy than the vacuum cleaner without a bag. Indeed, it serves as a sound insulation.
- Lifetime : Because they are, in essence, so simple and basic, bagged vacuums are currently up to twice as durable, if not virtually immortal.
Once the distinction has been made between vacuum cleaners with and without a bag, the criteria to be examined are the same as those we raised in our comparison on bagless vacuum cleaners :
- The power : it is determined by the ratio between the air flow (L / s or dm³ / s) and the depression. Ideal data is around 36 dm³ / s minimum for smooth floors and 40 dm³ / s for carpets. The vacuum (kPa, kilopascal) indicates the capacity of the vacuum cleaner to lift dust, located between 20 to 35 kPa for smooth floors and 40 kPa for carpets. The ideal would therefore be a ratio of 40 kPa (depression) to 40 dm³ / s (air flow).
- Ergonomics : your vacuum cleaner will follow you everywhere. Suddenly, its weight is important and its maneuverability must be examined (mainly dependent on the wheels of the sled). The length of the connection is of course also a determining factor, because it depends on your range of action.
- The noise : Even if you do not use your device for long hours at a time, this is an important criterion, especially to continue to hear what is happening around you. On average, the noise caused varies between 65 dB for the most discreet models and 80 dB for the noisiest.
- The accessories : Sometimes it’s the included accessories that take you from a nightmarish cleaning experience to quick, simple and effective action. The brushes will determine the efficiency of your vacuum cleaner based on the surface you are treating. It’s up to you to see if a crevice tool, a brush for animal hair, etc. have a use for you or not.
