Easy to use, this convector offers two power levels, the highest of which is particularly suitable for heating a large room or rapidly increasing the temperature of a smaller one.

This convector has the advantage of being able to be used for short periods of time. Indeed, its speed of heating and its large format allow the temperature of a room to be rapidly increased, for surfaces up to 25 m². Two knobs are used to choose the power (1200 W or 2400 W) and the intensity of the desired heat (mechanical thermostat). Despite the absence of casters, its integrated handles and low weight also allow it to be easily moved from one room to another in the house.

Honorable mentions

Klarstein Brasero (€ 154.99 at publication): An original design. This electric heater takes the form of a wall fireplace, for those nostalgic for the real wood fire. Indeed, the heating, adjustable on two intensities up to 1800 W, can be accompanied by false flames of variable color. The glass-ceramic panel is fitted with a small touch screen for adjusting the thermostat and is accompanied by a shelf, on which decorative stones are arranged, to complete the atmosphere. Very easy to use, it is another interesting aesthetic solution in your interior.

How to choose your electric convector ?

Electric heating often has a bad reputation because of the high cost of electricity (leading some to turn to oil stoves). However, it has undeniable qualities: it does not involve any smoke evacuation duct, is very easy to install, and allows rapid, odorless and silent heating.

First of all, you should know that there are several types of electric heaters:

  • The convection heater : it heats the ambient air thanks to an electric resistance. The principle of convection wants the room to heat up thanks to the upward circulation (upwards) of this hot air. Its variant is fan heater, whose blower system diffuses the heat created by the resistance more quickly. It is the preferred solution in small rooms such as bathrooms, because of its rapid heating.
  • The radiant heater : with this system comparable to the sun’s rays, it is not the air that is heated, but the bodies and objects that are in the room. These in turn emit heat, which then heats the room more evenly than a convector. Less energy consuming, it has the disadvantage of no longer diffusing heat once turned off. It is not suitable for bathrooms or verandas, the materials of which are not compatible.
  • The inertia radiator : it is the most economical and comfortable process because it uses an energy storage system, either in a heat transfer liquid for models with fluid inertia (in which the oil filled radiators), or in a solid material (ceramic, cast iron or soapstone) for models with dry inertia, which allows the heat produced to be stored. This is then diffused in a constant, uniform and progressive manner. This is the preferred solution for long-term use.

This distinction made, here are the criteria you should pay attention to to make the choice that best suits your needs.

  • The power : as with any heating system, it takes around 100 W per m². If your ceilings are high, however, you have to revise this data a little upwards. It may also depend on the winter outside temperatures in your area and the quality of insulation in your home.
  • The thermostat : it can be mechanical, electronic or digital. The more precise it is, the better you can control the heat in the room and the consumption of your appliance.
  • Fonctionnalities : it may be interesting to have a programmer or a timer, to optimize the operation of the appliance and limit overconsumption. Some recent radiators are said to be “intelligent”And are sometimes even connected. They can then detect the presence of an open window, but also the absence of movement in the room, and adapt their operation.
  • Security : the child safety is a classic of this type of equipment, since it guarantees that curious little hands cannot come and modify the settings and risk overheating. The frost protection function is useful in the event of prolonged absence, in order to avoid any drop in temperature too low. Finally, if you plan to use it in a damp room, check that it has the IP24 certification which protects it against splashes.
