The Best Steam Broom

Bissell PowerFresh LiftOff (1897N)
Usable on all surfaces except floors, this model is highly regarded for its ability to reach hard-to-reach areas. 2-in-1, it can be transformed into a hand-held steam cleaner and shows good autonomy.
This is not a traditional steam mop, but a 2-in-1 device, from which you can detach the removable unit (the “LiftOff”) to make it a hand-held steam cleaner. It is also equipped with a fairly complete range of accessories, thanks to which it is compatible with most surfaces, both on the ground and in height. With manual steam control and a multi-directional swivel head, cleaning is efficient and precise. Its heating time is fast and its maintenance easy. In our opinion, it offers the best quality / price ratio of this selection.

Vileda Steam
Simple to use, this steam mop is extremely fast. Its power and its dedicated accessory allow an ideal treatment of rugs and carpets. It is the best quality / price ratio for small budgets.
In addition to the two washable microfiber covers at 60 ° C with which this steam mop is supplied, you will receive with the purchase a specific accessory that attaches to this microfiber cover, which performs well on carpets and rugs. On paper, it must be recognized that it is far from being the most powerful model on the market, but its speed of heating, its excellent autonomy and its handling contribute to a formidable quality / price ratio.

Bissell PowerFresh (2113N)
Lightweight and easy to use, this model combines efficiency and maneuverability. Its high power and the hard bristle head, specially designed for encrusted dirt, are your best allies for cleaning most hard surfaces.
The Bissell Powerfresh is an excellent steam mop, designed for hard floors. Carpets and floors are therefore to be excluded. With its 2.8 kg, it is very pleasant to handle. Its larger build than previous models is largely explained by the large capacity of its reservoir (560 ml). Surprisingly, the announced autonomy is quite low in view of this capacity, but this is partly explained by a great power of 1600 W. This is particularly effective thanks to the “Steam on Demand” function, which allows add a more intense jet of steam if necessary.

Black + Decker SteaMitt Filaire
To tackle all types of surfaces, this steam mop has 12 accessories including a practical cleaning glove for treating high surfaces, but also offers automatic adaptation of the steam flow.
The SteaMitt differentiates itself from its competition by offering a silicone cleaning glove that you use by detaching the reservoir from the handle, turning the device into a hand-held cleaner. It can therefore be used on all surfaces including floors and carpets but also various kitchen or bathroom equipment. With such versatility, he does not lack much to dethrone Bissel at the top of the table. Equipped with a large 500 ml tank, its heating time is particularly fast (15 sec) and its power rises to 1300 W.

Honorable mentions
Vileda Steam XXL (€ 75.99 when published): this model is the XXL version of the model we quote at the entry level. It performs well: ready in just 15 seconds and suitable for surfaces over 100 m². In addition to its triangular head, it has a rectangular head, for faster dirt removal. Accessories are provided including two microfiber wipes, a cup with spout, and an accessory for carpet and rugs. The price, much higher, however seems prohibitive to us.
Polti SV450 Double (€ 89.99 when published): the Italian brand is the origin of the chemical-free steam mop as we know it. With this model, you can clean up to 15 surfaces using its 13 accessories. Convertible into a hand cleaner, it heats up in 15 seconds thanks to its 1500 W of power. It also includes an anti-lime filter to allow you to use tap water in its removable 300 ml tank. However, some users complain about the quality of the accessories.
Rowenta RY7557WH (€ 179.99 at the time of publication): its particularity is to combine suction with steam cleaning. The advanced cyclonic technology of this broom provides a high level of air and dust separation. The steam flow is adjustable: you can adapt it to any type of hard ground. It has some interesting features, starting with a 40-minute battery life. If you want to use it on carpet, a version with accessories is available but significantly more expensive.
How to choose your steam mop?
Steam cleaners tackle the toughest stains and sanitize your surfaces by killing the many bacteria on them - all without the product. As this process is gaining in scale, the device is available in three formats: the sleigh model, the steam mops we are going to talk about and the hand-held steam cleaners.
The particularity of a broom model is that it is compact and mainly designed for cleaning floors. However, it can be difficult to choose a quality model that is right for your needs.
In order to help you in your purchase, here are the first essential criteria to check before purchasing a steam mop:
- Surface compatibility : Most steam mops can only be used on hard, tile-type floors. Use on parquet or linoleum is not recommended. Some models provide an adapter for rugs and carpets that require more gentle treatment. In addition, there are certain “hybrid” brooms, offering accessories for treating surfaces other than floors. In all cases, prefer brooms on which the steam flow is adjustable, and therefore adaptable to different types of soil.
- The power : corded models are generally more powerful than cordless models, since most of the power is then concentrated on the steam flow and not on maintaining the battery. On average, it is recommended to have a power between 1000 and 2000 W, and an average flow rate of 3.5 bars for a deep cleaning.
- Heating time : it mainly depends on the power of the steam mop. The higher it is, the faster the heating. The heating time can vary from ten seconds to more than a minute. This is an important factor because, if the capacity of the tank of your steam mop is reduced, it can quickly become annoying to waste precious minutes waiting for it to heat up again.
- Autonomy : it depends on the capacity of its tank. The average revolves around a 500 ml tank, guaranteeing you an autonomy of about 20 minutes. However, it can also vary depending on the power and the amount of water that the device will use in the process of producing the steam. For wireless models, it is also necessary to take into account the autonomy / recharging time. Overall, it is rare to see devices exceed 20 minutes.
- Ease of use and maneuverability : Ideally, choose a device with a removable tank, weighing at most 3.5 kg, and equipped with an ergonomic handle adjustable in height. Check the dimensions and the shape of the head: triangular, it can more easily reach the corners, and, rectangular, it gives you a faster cleaning. Similarly, if you have opted for a device with variable power, the various adjustment buttons must be readable, accessible and easily adjustable.
- The interview : If it gets the job done faster, your steam mop requires more maintenance than your mop. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions, to preserve it for several years. Preferably opt for a device with an anti-limescale filter, but clean it anyway after each use. If the steam mop has washable pads (most of them are), perform at least one rinse after use, and always dry them well to avoid any risk of mold.
