The Best Handheld Vacuum Cleaner
Our choice, Best high end

Black+Decker PV1820L
In addition to a good suction power, it is also on the maneuverability that this vacuum cleaner plays its strengths. Its swivel suction head allows access to every nook and cranny and its ease of use is quite convincing.
This hand-held vacuum cleaner performs well despite its small size. Its triple filtration system is effective even on the smallest particles of dust and its pivoting nose on eight tilt levels, up to 200 °, allows it to access every corner of the house. Its autonomy is average, with 11 minutes of continuous suction, and is compensated by a beautiful suction power of 35 W, effective on hard surfaces as on upholstered furniture. In our tests, the hand vacuum cleaner proved to be the most convincing on all points.
Best midrange

Eufy HomeVac H11
For a reasonable price, this vacuum cleaner is the best choice for vacuuming hard surfaces such as dining tables, desks, and kitchens, thanks to good ergonomics and a compact size.
It must be recognized that aesthetically, the HomeVac H11 is quite convincing. It is also very light, weighing just 550 g on the scale, and pleasant to handle. Suction is good on hard surfaces such as our desks or the dining room table, despite a manifold of just 90 ml. Its autonomy is in the high average, since during our tests, it turned off only after 13 minutes of operation. We appreciate, moreover, the fairly practical battery indicator. It is therefore, in our eyes, the best table vacuum cleaner that we have been able to test in its price range.
High-end alternative

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser
Despite a perfectible maintenance system, this hand vacuum cleaner seems to represent the best choice for the car thanks to a good autonomy of 14 minutes and a large dust collector of 600 ml.
Much more classic than some hand-held vacuum cleaners that we have been able to test, the Pet Hair Eraser is imposing, with a weight of 1.270 kg on the scale. The large handle is however pleasant to handle and the ignition button easy to access. It has the particularity of being accompanied by three accessories, including a motorized brush that can vacuum all surfaces and is particularly useful in the car, although it is primarily intended for animal hair. Vacuuming on hard surfaces was not a problem for us in practice either.

How did we test?

We took care to select, for our tests, vacuum cleaners from different price ranges, but also models that seemed to stand out from the competition with very specific characteristics, such as the suction of animal hair, to evaluate all of them. relevance.
When unpacking, it was first the general presentation of the device that interested us, and the different tips offered with it. We were pleasantly surprised to find that each vacuum cleaner was straight out of the box, with a (partially) charged battery. However, the various user guides recommend that you fully charge the device before using it for the first time to fully benefit from its performance.

In practice, it is of course on the power and the suction efficiency that we focused first, both on hard surfaces (table) and on soft surfaces (sofa or car).
The ergonomics were evaluated during use (in particular the question of weight) but also during storage. At the same time, it seemed interesting to us to test the practicality of each of the accessories.

We then took care to precisely measure the autonomy of each vacuum cleaner and to analyze the charging system provided (the type of power supply, the presence or not of a station also used for storage, if it could accommodate a or more accessories and whether it could be fixed to the wall).
Finally, the “maintenance” part was not neglected since the dust collector had to be emptied for each device. We took the opportunity to check the accessibility of the filter and its ease of maintenance, based on more or less detailed instructions for use depending on the brand.
How to choose your hand vacuum cleaner?
A true centerpiece in the paraphernalia of household appliances that equip homes today, the vacuum cleaner has become an essential part of daily or weekly cleaning sessions.
This is how after talking to you about vacuum cleaners with bag and bagless, from broom vacuum cleaners and even robot vacuum cleaners, our panel can only be complete after discussing hand-held vacuums.
Compact and cordless, they can perform well for small, short-term cleaning jobs. But small size doesn’t have to mean small power. It is therefore still necessary to choose a model that holds up on the very large vacuum cleaner market.
To help you in your choice, we have selected a few criteria to be aware of:
- The power : It is important to define the use that you will have of it before determining how much power you need. In general, under 15 airwatts (AW), your vacuum cleaner will only be useful for a few quick and easy tasks. If you want to clean certain textiles or your car, at least 20 AW is recommended.
- Ergonomics : as their name suggests, these vacuum cleaners can only be handled by hand. Beyond 1.5 kg, you will probably find it difficult to hold it for several minutes without tiring. The handle should also provide a comfortable grip and allow you to access surfaces at heights or in less accessible corners. Large models have the advantage of increasing the size of their tank and / or battery life, but are less maneuverable and heavier.
- The ignition button : it must be positioned so that it is easily accessible wherever your hand is on the handle. If it is too small or offers too much resistance, its use can quickly become difficult.
- Autonomy : intended for small cleanings, hand-held vacuums generally last a little shorter than stick vacuums. It is rare to see them exceed 10-15 minutes of autonomy.
- The accessories : it can be an extension tube for cleaning on the floor, a wider brush to increase the treatment surface, a long nozzle to reach less accessible places or even a cable recharging via the cigarette lighter, very practical if you use the hand vacuum cleaner for the maintenance of your car.
- The sound level : even for small occasional cleanings, it is preferable that the noise of the device is not deafening. Unfortunately, it is rare that the actual sound level is as low as advertised.
Honorable mentions
Black+Decker PD1820L (see the test) (€ 101.89 at the time of publication): with a power of 25 W, this vacuum cleaner performed well in our tests, in particular thanks to an autonomy of 14 minutes. It stands out from the competition thanks to an integrated hose allowing it to extend its suction head over 1.5 m and thus easily suction at height. However, we judged its weight to be poorly distributed and its flexible hose poorly fixed, making it uncomfortable to use it and to empty it by side opening.
Invictus One (see the test) (€ 119.99 at the time of publication): very efficient on hard surfaces, this hand-held vacuum cleaner has a fairly convincing Dyson look and a lightness that makes it easier to handle. In our testing, we found its non-contact dust drain system to be very convenient, as was the rest of the maintenance. Unfortunately, the small size of its collector (90 ml) and the absence of other accessories than the crevice tool (which does not hold well) make us question its quality / price ratio.
