FitBit Surge Fitness Watch Review 2022

Fitbit Surge is more than just a fitness bracelet, it is Fitbit’s attempt to put at our disposal a smartwatch with activity monitoring capabilities. What does this mean? It is an activity monitor like the Charge and the Charge HR (controls steps, distance or sleep patterns) and also offers GPS and a heart rate sensor along with music control and notifications from our smartphone. It is the highest model in the Fitbit range, and the most expensive. Let’s get to know more about the smartwatch in this FitBit Surge fitness watch review.

This is not the most stylish device on the market, and it has adopted the same rugged band as the Charge and Charge HR, something that may look good in the gym or when training but not to wear to work. However, it has in its favor that it is not a very large device.

It is available in 3 sizes: Small (14-16cm), Large (16-20cm), X-large (20-23cm). It is comfortable and holds firmly to the wrist. It has a large 1.26 ″ monochrome OLED touch screen that is always on and provides good data visibility. We can use it in the dark thanks to its backlighting. The screen is really sensitive to the touch, so we will have to be careful not to activate functions that we do not want.

We are also going to find 3 physical buttons. The one on the left starts tracking the exercise. The two on the right are essentially the action buttons that allow you to start, stop, and end a workout. They also work to control music.

The Fitbit Surge is made with the same elastomer as the Charge and Charge HR and in principle it should not cause any type of allergy or skin reaction if we use the bracelet rationally.

This best performance fitness watch is also 5ATM water resistant (you can put it in the shower but not for swimming) and controls the heart rate thanks to the PurePulse technology. So if the best water resistant fitness watch is what you are looking for, FitBit Surge is perfect for you.

Fitbit Surge – App

Fitbit offers us a web application and an application for smartphones to be able to synchronize our data via bluetooth 4.0 with a mobile phone or with a PC or Mac. Its operation is really simple and offers us a good overview of all our training along with interesting and useful statistics . One of the strengths of Fitbit. If you are on the quest for the best fitness watch for women’s health, this one is your buy.

Fitbit Surge – Performance and Battery

Using this activity tracker is very simple, especially if you have already used a Fitbit bracelet before. The daily activity monitoring can be consulted by sliding left and right on the touch screen (we see the steps, the heart rate at rest, distance, calories). When you reach the goal of daily steps, the watch will send you a gentle vibration. One of the best fitness watches for tracking calories.

The difference with the Surge is that it has smartwatch capabilities so we can see text messages, call notifications and control the music on our smartphone.

The step control is quite correct and its reliability is quite good, as is the data provided by the built-in GPS. The sleep control is not that good and sometimes it gives us some strange results (the data is quite basic).

When you need to track specific activities, a simple press of the physical button on the left takes you to a second series of screens. The Exercise section focuses on activities that only use the heart rate sensor such as weights, spinning or yoga.

As for the heart rate monitor, it doesn’t do badly at all, offering good results when compared to chest bands like the Polar H7.

And what about the battery? Does GPS and heart rate monitoring affect its duration a lot? Fitbit says that the battery lasts up to 7 days, but it will depend a lot on the daily use that you give to this bracelet: about 5 days would be a more approximate value.

Final Verdict: Should I Buy FitBit Surge?

It really is not a smartwatch, or at least it is not what we expect from one. Fitbit has done a great job in the activity tracking section but it doesn’t offer us anything new. The software is excellent and that they have added GPS and heart rate monitoring is a success. If you can live without GPS, the Charge HR is a better option. In general, it offers us quite reliable data.

Pros
  • Water resistant and very durable
  • Very good GPS tracking
  • Very good heart rate control
Cons
  • Sleep control is not very good
  • Battery life could be better
  • Design is nothing to write home about
